Frequently Asked Questions

What is DoubleCheck, and what is its mission?

DoubleCheck is an initiative with the mission to reduce mass shootings in the US while protecting the Second Amendment. Our primary focus is on protecting the firearms industry from liability by proactively identifying individuals with concerning behavior to prevent them from obtaining firearms at the point of purchase. By doing so, we support the right to bear arms while removing the ability for potential mass shooters and individuals with malicious intent to acquire firearms, ultimately preventing tragic events..

Why does DoubleCheck believe in enhancing background checks for gun purchases?

DoubleCheck believes the majority of gun owners are law-abiding citizens. However, we cannot ignore the data on mass shooters who exhibit disturbing behavior and have a history of criminal activity. Every mass shooting leads to public outcry for gun control and puts responsible gun owners in the position of defending their rights. DoubleCheck seeks to make a change in the system without overreach from the government. As a private solution to this public problem, DoubleCheck wants to ensure the Second Amendment shall not be infringed.

Does DoubleCheck replace the existing background check system (NICS)?

No, DoubleCheck does not replace the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). Instead, we complement it by offering an enhanced evaluation of an applicant's background, including social media indicators and other relevant data that may have been missed by the standard NICS check. This information is private to the consumer, only offering the point-of-sale a recommendation based on the information reported through DoubleCheck.

How does DoubleCheck's enhanced background check system work?

DoubleCheck's system involves a more comprehensive evaluation of an applicant's background at the point-of-sale. Data is scoured from multiple public, open-source platforms that the current background checking system (NICS) may miss. This includes public social media indicators for declarations of malintent or self-harm. A consumer at the point-of-sale will receive a text to complete their DoubleCheck. After confirming identity, the check is processed, the consumer is shown their result and the reasons behind it, and the retailer receives an immediate rating of Green, Yellow, Orange, or Red as guidance for proceeding with the sale. The retailer does not receive personal information about why the rating was given, as all details are kept confidential. However, the gun purchaser can see what factors contributed to the results. Consumers can appeal their result with the DoubleCheck team. Once the report is exited, the data is not kept. DoubleCheck does not monitor, collect or distribute data.

Does DoubleCheck violate privacy of consumers?

DoubleCheck does not monitor, store, or collect data. Just as we believe in the Second Amendment, we also believe in the right to privacy. DoubleCheck sources data from online, public platforms (open-source data) to provide the firearms community confidence and peace of mind when selling to consumers.

Is DoubleCheck part of the government?

DoubleCheck was created to be a private solution to a public problem. By leveraging cutting-edge technology to reduce suicide by firearm and indiscriminate shootings in public places and schools, DoubleCheck works to protect the inalienable right of the American people to keep and bear arms.

Is DoubleCheck a proponent of the Second Amendment?

Yes, DoubleCheck RESPECTS the Bill of Rights, the Constitution, and constitutionally adjudicated Local, State, and Federal firearms laws, while simultaneously respecting the privacy, dignity, and due process of all potential clients and customers in accordance with applicable laws and privacy standards. Living safely in America, owning firearms, and being self-reliant are all rights of the American people which shall not be infringed.
